Redwood Learning Community
Greetings! Everyone settles in and there is free, unstructured play and stories on Junior Center deck.
8:45 Get on the bus!
We get in our school bus or vans and head to the forest or community destination. On Mondays and Wednesdays we stay put.
9:15 AM- MORNING MEETING
We center our bodies and check in with our friends about how they’re feeling and what ideas they have for the day. The teacher provides the day’s offering and we discuss current projects. Children are also invited to have snack at this time.
9:45 AM- MORNING ADVENTURE
We explore the forest and connect with nature. This is also the time that children choose from offerings such as story workshop, inquiry topics, and creating freedom fighter plays. On Wednesdays we enjoy botanical gardens and BoomShake comes in for music and drumming class. Sometimes we may also head to the library to read, check out books, and do research.
12:00PM- AFTERNOON MEETING
We center our bodies, eat our lunch, and engage in dialogue about everyone’s adventures and projects.
We set up tents and sleeping bags for quiet nap/rest, listening to stories, and winding down for the day.
1:30PM- AFTERNOON WORK PERIOD
Story workshop and technical skills workshop geared toward our TK/K aged students
About the program
Our days are spent exploring and appreciating our outdoor environment, learning about social justice and empowerment through songs, chants, and stories, and taking time to gather with our school community for quiet moments of reflection and gratitude.

Our kinder children are now nestled in the preschool program. This will allow them to grow as leaders in the community and allow them to keep growing their social emotional skills. After lunch our kindergarten students will have technical skills workshop and story workshop to build and continue their math, literacy and other skills we need to be free people and agents of change.
Please note that students do not need to be toilet trained to join the program! As an inclusive program, we know that each child develops on their own timeline and will support them in their path to toileting independence!
